◆About UESTC
University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC) is one of the first listed “211 Project” and “985 Project” universities and “Double First Class”initiative by the Chinese Central Government, situated in the capital city of Sichuan Province-Chengdu, the center in Western China for economy, culture and transportation and also known as “The land of abundance”. UESTC distinguishes itself from other top universities in China with its specialties in electronics and information, and is the only university where all the sub-disciplines under the disciplines of “Electronic Science and Technology” and “Information and Communication Engineering” are national key ones. The university has developed into a key multidisciplinary research-oriented university with electronic science and technology being its nucleus and characterized by the harmonious integration of science, engineering, management and liberal arts.
◆About CWAS
Center for West African Studies (CWAS) is a University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC) based research center, established through the platform of the Ministry of Education of People’s Republic of China and in partnership with University of Ghana (UG), University of Cape Coast (UCC), Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), University of Education, Winneba (UEW), University for Development Studies (UDS), and UESTC Alumni in West Africa for West African Studies in April 2017.
The establishment of CWAS is in line with Chinese National Philosophy and Social Sciences “Going Global” Strategy with the need to improve the image of UESTC in West African countries; to enhance China’s influence in West Africa; to strengthen China-Africa collaborations, and to serve as a bridge for researchers and practitioners from China, West Africa and beyond to identify and meet the needs of West African development.
Missions and Goals: CWAS is creating “1+1+1” new model of a Talents Training Base, a high level Academic & Cultural Exchange Platform and a featured top class “Think Tank” for West African Studies.
