On the morning of November 2, 2017, Mr. Chen Bing, an expert on international issues and a special commentator of Shenzhen TV's “Live Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan” was appointed as a member of the Strategic/Academic Committee of the Center for West African Studies(CWAS) of the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China(UESTC). The appointment ceremony was held at the Liren Building of Qingshuihe Campus, UESTC. Professor Zhao, Director of Center for West Africa Studies, presided over the appointment ceremony and issued a letter of appointment for Mr. Chen Bing. Professor Zhou Jun and Professor Liu Zhiyong attended the ceremony.
After the ceremony, Chen Bing delivered a lecture to the international students of UESTC entitled "China's diplomatic strategy of the new era". Chen Bing said that after the 19th CPC National Congress, China entered a new era of socialism with Chinese characteristics. Under the new era, China’s diplomatic strategy is to build a community of human destiny and to build a new type of international relations. Referring to China-Africa relations, Chen Bing believes that in the new era, China will always adhere to the three cooperation objectives, that is, eliminate poverty, promote economic development, and increase environmental protection. Although China and Africa are geographically far apart, they should join hands to shoulder the responsibility of world development. The Chinese people are willing to work with African people to seek for common development under new historical conditions. Especially under the Belt and Road Initiative, China’s openness and intensity will be further deepened, and the exchanges between China and Africa in economy, politics and culture will become more frequent. The Chinese people are more exposed to authentic African culture, such as passionate jazz music and rock music. African people can also purchase quality products from China.
Chen Bing emphasized that in the new era, China will always adhere to an independent foreign policy of peace and respect the right of all peoples to choose their own development path. As a responsible developing country, China has an international obligation to assist Africa. At the same time, China’s position on the international stage cannot be separated from the full support of African friends.
Chen Bing said that he is full of confidence in China-Africa relations and called on the international students to start from their own and join hands to contribute to China-Africa cooperation and common development.
Chen Bing’s speech won warm applause from the international students presented. Everyone raised questions about China-Africa relations, China’s foreign policy and other issues. The atmosphere was lively.
