The 3rd China-Africa Youth Association Visited UESTC

In the morning of June 26, 2018, organized by Ministry of Education, the Foreign Affairs Office of the Sichuan Provincial People's Government, and the Sichuan Provincial Department of Education, Qingshuihe Campus of UESTC greeted the representatives who had attended the 3rd China-Africa Youth League Sichuan Tour. Among them were 150 young representatives from more than 50 African countries arriving UESTC together to share their dreams with UESTC students.

The African youth representatives in the group are leaders from young political parties (organizations) in Africa or in charge of  youth affairs. In the library, the intel  students from Africa who were studying at UESTC shared the experience, growth process and academic achievements with delegates as well as  their future career and life in China.

It is informed that  the current African students studying at UESTC come from 26 countries in Africa, including North Africa, West Africa, East Africa, Central and South Africa. More than 90% of them are studying for master's and doctoral degrees. The contribution made by UESTC for training young talents has impressed the international students deeply.   

Over communication, African youth representatives were more interested in inquiring   about talent training model, student employment opportunities and markets, the mode of cooperation and the contribution for African development after African students successful completing their studies. They expressed their love for the beautiful campus of the University of Electronic Science and Technology as well.

African youth representatives also visited the library and the Qingshuihe campus of the University.With the remarkable improvement and comprehensive expansion of China-Africa relations based on long-term friendly cooperation in the past, UESTC has achieved much for training young talents in Africa, and actively explored cooperation with African universities and governments. On the basis of cooperation with talents in main universities in West Africa, especially in Ghana, UESTC has established the Center for West African Studies (CWAS) in partnership with five universities in Ghana and the West Africa Alumni Association to actively carry out communications among talents; UESTC and the Ethiopian Ministry of Science and Technology carried out personnel training cooperation to foster technical talents urgently needed in these countries, and prepared for the establishment of the East African Alumni Association. UESTC has fostered more than 800 middle and senior technical talents in Africa in terms of engineering technology and management. In the future, China and Africa will gain greater achievements in economic development and trade cooperation, technological transformation and innovation, education, cultural communication and industrial agriculture modernization.

In September 2018, China will host the Beijing Summit of the China-Africa Cooperation Forum. This is a major diplomatic event that China has adopted given the new context. As an important supporting activity of the Beijing Summit, the 3rd China-Africa Youth Festival was held in Beijing and Chengdu from June 20th to 27th. On June 24th, the third “China-Africa Youth Gala” Sichuan Tour was launched in Chengdu. More than 100 youth representatives from 53 African countries and the African Union Commission will be with more than 40 Chinese youth representatives to implement a four-day visiting and sharing activity in Sichuan.
