On March 28-29, 2019, the 2019 African Forum at Shanghai Institutes for International Studies was held successfully with theme of“African Development under the New Global Development Landscape”. Professor Zhao, the director of the Center for West African Studies of UESTC was invited to attend the forum to make a presentation on Risks and Countermeasures of International Industrial Capacity Cooperation between China and Africa: Sichuan and Ghana Case.
According to Professor Zhao, China and Africa have high capacity complementary and cooperation potential. Actively promoting international capacity cooperation between Chinese and African enterprises is not only conducive to infrastructure construction and economic development in African countries, but also an important step in China's industrial transformation and upgrading.She also talked about the theoretical base about International Industrial Capacity Cooperation from “wild geese” to “ head-leading” on the theory of goods transfer. The countermeasures are proposed based on the surveys from both Ghanaian and Sichuan businesses by using PEST tool.
This forum sponsored by Shanghai Institutes for International Studies and Bill &Melinda Gates Foundation laid a platform for experts to discuss and explore ways to better deepen China-Africa cooperation and international cooperation with Africa.

The establishment of CWAS is in line with Chinese National Philosophy and Social Sciences “Going Global” Strategy with the need to improve the image of UESTC in West African countries; to enhance China’s influence in West Africa; to strengthen China-Africa collaborations, and to serve as a bridge for researchers and practitioners from China, West Africa and beyond to identify and meet the needs of West African development.
