On October 17, 2021, Evans Opoku-Mensah (Student ID: 201714110105), an international student from Ghana in the School of Management and Economics of UESTC and assistant of CWAS, and Lilian Wanjiru Njaramba (Student ID: 202024160101), an international student from Kenya in the School of Public Affairs and Administration of UESTC and assistant of CWAS, and were invited to attend the 1st Forum on International Students from Africa held by China-Africa Institute. Themed by “We, the Inheritors of African-China Friendship”, the sessions of the forum included the opening speech, keynote speech, group discussion on the draft of the Initiative for African Students, summary report and closing ceremony. The invited African delegates were ambassadors and diplomats from Cameroon, Nigeria, South Sudan and other African countries in China, as well as representatives from 36 African countries such as Cameroon, Niger, Guinea, Ghana, Kenya and other international students in China. The Chinese delegates were experts, scholars and student representatives from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, the China Africa Research Institute, the University of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Tsinghua University, Zhejiang University, Xi’an International Studies University, the University Electronic Science and Technology of China and the China-Africa Youth Federation, as well as journalists from Social Sciences in China Press, Global Times and China Daily.
During the group discussion on the draft of the Initiative for African Students, the African students actively and enthusiastically put forward their suggestions from different perspectives to inherit the traditional friendship between China and Africa and strengthen the mutual learning of civilizations. After the group discussion, the African students decided to nominate Lilian Wanjiru Njaramba, a Kenyan student from UESTC, as the African student reporter to read out the draft of the Initiative for African Students to the forum.
As the representative of CWAS of UESTC, Lilian Wanjiru Njaramba, an international student from Kenya in the School of Public Affairs and Administration in UESTC, read out the “Initiative for African Students” to the conference, calling on all African students to make efforts to expand the friendship between Africa and China and to take action to achieve the African Dream of unity and revitalization of Aficans. The youth is just like the rising sun. And African students should renew the Africa-China friendship in the new era with their enthusiasm, love, and self-discipline.
