September 4, 2025,The China–Africa Institute has officially published an article by Ama Bonuah Quaye, a Ghanaian PhD candidate at the School of Management and Economics, University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC). The article, titled “China in My Eyes: A Multifaceted Perspective on Technology and Culture”, appears in the Institute’s latest issue.

Drawing from personal experiences since arriving in Chengdu in 2019, Ama’s piece explores China’s rapid digital transformation, the integration of technology into everyday life, and the country’s commitment to bridging the urban–rural digital divide. The essay highlights innovations in artificial intelligence, smart cities, e-governance, and digital inclusion, offering a perspective that challenges stereotypes often portrayed in Western media.

“I wanted to show the China I have seen and lived in, one that is innovative, inclusive, and committed to sharing its progress with the world,” Ama said.

The publication is part of the China–Africa Institute’s efforts to amplify the voices of African scholars studying in China, strengthening cultural and academic exchanges between the two regions. Ama previously completed a Master’s degree in Public Management at the School of Public Administration, UESTC, and currently serves as a research assistant at the UESTC Centre for West African Studies (CWAS).

The article’s inclusion in the China–Africa Institute journal not only recognizes Ama’s academic contributions but also underscores the importance of international students’ perspectives in deepening China–Africa relations.
