The textbook Globalization and World Politics (Third Edition) was recently launched at the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC).Edited by Professor Zhao Shurong, Dean of the Center for West African Studies(CWAS), the book is designed for international students and reflects the university’s commitment to strengthening English-medium general education and promoting China-Africa academic and cultural exchange.

Prof. Zhao Shurong introduces the new edition of the textbook, highlighting its updated framework and Chinese perspectives.

The textbook serves as the core resource for the university’s required general education course for international students. The third edition features five chapters covering the foundations of globalization, key concepts in political science, classical theories of world politics, the impact of world development on the global political order, and contemporary international issues, offering a comprehensive framework from theory to practice.

A key feature of the new edition is its systematic integration of Chinese perspectives, including China’s engagement with economic globalization, its role in global governance, and its governance philosophy in the new era. The textbook has been endorsed by Professor Fawaz of the London School of Economics and Political Science and has become a central teaching resource for international students at UESTC.

The launch event featured discussions with Xie Yanshen, Director of the Gulf of Guinea African International Art Museum, and Associate Professor An Lan, an Adjunct Researcher with CWAS. Dr. An Lan, who teaches at Panzhihua University and in Nigeria, will continue to promote the textbook’s core ideas through his academic networks, contributing to the two-way flow of China-Africa scholarship.

Mr. Xie Yanshen, Director of the Gulf of Guinea African International Art Museum, donated the African art exhibition catalogue to the School of Public Administration.

Xie Yanshen also presented the university with a catalogue from an African art exhibition at Tsinghua University’s Art Museum, which documents West African art collections, cultural history, and research findings. The catalogue will be housed in the university library for access by faculty and students.

Professor Zhao Shurong noted that the textbook, after multiple revisions, serves both as a teaching resource and a platform for intellectual exchange between China and Africa. CWAS will continue to partner with museums and overseas universities to support people-to-people exchange and cultivate globally minded talent with expertise in China-Africa relations.
