To all African Students in China:
Given the context of that the year 2018 is the 40th anniversary for China’s reform and opening-up, and that China will host the Beijing Summit and the 7th FOCAC ministerial meeting, China’s strategic cooperation with African countries gains increasing momentum. It is of critical importance for China and Africa to promote cultural and academic exchanges and strengthen mutual understanding and respect. Center for West African Studies (CWAS) of University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC) in collaboration with Center for African Studies of Peking University launches the Call for Essays for 2018 “China & Africa-China Friendship in My Eyes” and cordially invites all African nationals currently enrolled in Chinese universities who have creative talents are encouraged to submit essays for 2018 “China and China & Africa-China Friendship in My Eyes”. The winners will be invited to participate workshops and cultural events over the Orientation Week Festival at UESTC in September(or October) 2018.

Essay Submission:
Submissions should be original, unpublished, and with no copyright disputes.
Theme: “China & Africa-China Friendship in My Eyes”
Length: no more than 3,000 words
Language: Chinese or English
Eligibility: African nationals currently enrolled in universities in mainland China.
Important Dates:
Essay Submission Due: July 15, 2018
Notification by: August 31, 2018
Please submit all essays electronically before July 15, 2018 to cwasuestc@163.com with subject : author’s name + institutional affiliation + essay title + cellphone number.
Awards：
⦁ First Prize: 2 winners will be awarded with
⦁ Certificate and other prizes
⦁ Invitation to the UESTC Orientation Week Festival including free transportation (CRH economy class) and accommodation.
⦁ Second Prize: 3 winners will be awarded with
⦁ Certificate and other prizes
⦁ Invitation to the UESTC Orientation Week Festival including free accommodation and reimbursement for half price of transportation (CRH economy class).
⦁ Third Prize: 5 winners will be awarded with
⦁ certificate and other prizes
⦁ Invitation to the UESTC Orientation Week Festival including free accommodation, but transportation not covered.
⦁ Honorable Mention Award: 5 winners will be awarded with
⦁ certificate and other prizes(express delivery).
Reminder: The date for receiving awards at UESTC is to be confirmed(The Orientation Week Festival at UESTC is scheduled either in September or October, 2018. Once the date is confirmed, we will let you know)
